What is a solar water pump? Solar
A water lifting system powered by electricity from solar panels. The pump connects to the panels through a controller; when sunlight falls on the panels, the pump lifts water. No grid electricity is required to run it.
How does a solar pump work? Solar
Solar cells convert sunlight into DC electricity. A controller regulates that supply and drives the pump motor. Where the motor needs AC, an inverter or drive converts it. Many systems include a storage tank so water is available outside pumping hours.
Submersible or surface pump — which do I need? Buying
Where the water level is deeper than about 15 metres, a submersible pump is recommended; it sits in the water and lifts it out. Where the water is shallower than about 15 metres and you are lifting to or above ground level, a surface pump is usually the better choice.
Which solar pump suits agriculture? Solar
